Ever Changing Construction Processes
Project expectations are harder to meet. Budgets, schedules or evolving designs constantly change. It's harder to keep workers in the field informed of what is being built and how the projects need to be constructed. The evolving tools of Lean, BIM and IPD methodologies are now allowing hope that we can keep up with the demand of the “new” delivery of the construction.

Ever Changing Construction Processes
Main Presenter: Jeff Johnston, Project Controls/ Scheduling Manager, Tellepsen Builders
In construction with all the new technologies that we use to build our projects we struggle more and more with the ability to the get the useful information to the people that need it most. As the projects expectations on projects are harder and harder to meet, if it is budgets, or schedule or evolving designs that continue to constantly change it is getting harder to keep the workers in the field informed of what is being built and the overall plan on how the projects need to constructed. The evolving tools of Lean, BIM and the IPD methodologies are allowing hope that we will be able to keep up with the demand of the “new” delivery of the construction that is upon us. I will help to bridge the gaps of how all three (3) of these methodologies can be used together to streamline the overall construction process and help to educated the potential pitfalls that can come with using these tools.

LCI Houston Community of Practice
The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.
The Houston Community of Practice (CoP) of LCI has been developed to provide local lean support to owners, architects and designers, engineers, contractors, specialty contractors and suppliers who are doing business in the Houston area. We invite owners and project delivery team members to meet together as a local user group to learn, share and develop a lean community in the Houston area.
We are dedicated to exploring the three opportunities provided by Lean Project Delivery (LPD):
-Impeccable coordination to create predictable work flow
-Projects as a production system to change the structure of work in design and construction.
-Project as a collective enterprise to align financial incentives.
